Dimension Groups in DimensionIQ

A Dimension Group in DimensionIQ represents a set of related dimensions placed on a layout of a drawing. It is used to organize and manage measurements that appear visually on the drawing, ensuring that similar dimensions are grouped together and displayed consistently.

Each dimension group must belong to a folder, which helps organize dimension groups within a project.

A dimension group must also be configured with a measurement type and a display type, both of which hold measurements. The measurement type determines how the primary measurement is calculated, such as Length, Area, or Volume, while the display type holds the measurement used for display purposes. If the measurement type and display type are different, both measurements will be shown when hovering over the dimension in the drawing. However, the display type determines which dimension is shown in the menu on the left-hand side.

In DimensionIQ, default height and default offset are used to represent the vertical position of measurements within a building, such as which storey a wall, length, or area belongs to. The default height defines the vertical elevation of the measurement. For example, if a length dimension is rendered with a height of 2400mm, it can visually represent a wall with a height of 2.4m in the 3D view.

The default offset raises the dimension by an additional vertical amount. This allows measurements to be positioned above the base height, making it possible to represent elements on different stories or levels of a building.

Together, these values allow dimensions to be visualized at different elevations, enabling scenarios such as walls or areas on multiple stories within the same drawing. When a dimension group is created, the default height and offset provide the initial values used by its dimensions. These values can be adjusted later, allowing measurements to be taken or displayed at different building levels as required.

Dimension groups also control visual properties, such as the colors used for the dimension lines, making it easier to identify and distinguish measurements on the drawing.
