Drawings in DimensionIQ

A drawing in DimensionIQ is a plan file that contains the visual layouts used for measurement and takeoff. Drawings provide the reference material from which quantities are identified and measured during the estimating process.

Drawings are added within a project and typically consist of architectural, structual, or engineering plans. These files may include multiple pages or sheets representing different parts of a building, such as floor plans, elevations, sections.

Once a drawing is added to a project, its pages become available in the Layouts tab, where individual sheets can be opened in the takeoff workspace. A user can open multiple drawing pages at the same time, allowing them to switch between different plans while working.

Within an open drawing page, a user can:

  • Create and place measurements
  • Record quantities using dimension groups
  • Mark locations directly on the plan
  • Track totals for measured components

Drawings therefore serve as the visual workspace where measurements are performed, while the resulting data is organized through dimension groups within the project.

In summary, a drawing represents the plan or blueprint used as the basis for the measurement, allowing a user to identify components and record quantities directly from the construction documents.
